Meredith and Big Bang

Meredith Gallagher, rider and trainer specializing in Hunters, Jumpers and Equitation, grew up on the family farm Ridge Point Stables. As the daughter of two equestrian professionals, Marylou and Mike Gallagher, she was raised a rider and spent much of her adolescences in the saddle. Her first ponies “Zippidy Do Da” and “Charles in Charge” were carted around to every horse show. Showing was fun and winning ribbons a joy, but Meredith was taught that the sport was about the horses, not the ribbons. Ribbons were simply the product of both sides of the partnership each giving their 50 percent. The days both partners were in sync were the days you won, all the rest were practice and more valuable for what you learned about your horse than any day you won a ribbon.

Meredith became a serious junior rider who enjoyed relationships with amazingly talented equine athletes. She was offered catch rides and took instruction from trainers including Brian Jones, Jane Fennesy, Paddy Downing-Nygard, Mary and Kevin Eufimia, Keith Powell, and Peter Foley. Later in her junior career the Ridge Point Stables’ first filly “Bold Chance” (aka Buffy) out of their stallion “Bold Nominee,” became her Junior Jumper. Trainers Don Stewart and Richard Watson completed the team. Don taught Meredith to understand the importance of details; from boot polish to choosing a path to the jumps, everything has a purpose and reason. Richard gave her an understanding of feel and timing. He taught Meredith to allow her horses to help her instead of her trying to be a constant dictator.

Meredith and Buffy became a fast and well-tuned team under Richard’s tutelage earning the CFHJA Junior/ Amateur Jumper Yea rend Championship 3 years running. The combination of Don’s and Richard’s philosophies, the Showman and the Horseman, combined with Meredith’s lifelong compassion for horses, have made her the understanding and detail oriented trainer she is today. Upon graduating from high school and the junior ranks Meredith was accepted to Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with a full athletic scholarship. Attending SCAD made it possible for her to pursue her second passion, fashion. Meredith combined her two passions and designed a collection of children’s equestrian apparel while serving as captain on the SCAD’s IHSA team for 3 of her college years. She earned a Bachelors of Fashion Art, yet the pull of horses and family brought her back to Ridge Point Stables. Currently, Meredith is enjoying her pro career and is also a sponsored athlete of Brandon Equine Medical Center.

Welcome! School has started and its time for Stable Kids to start up back up!

kids1Stable Kids is a program designed to allow children to enjoy and learn from “Stable” experience! One Saturday a month the knowledgeable staff at Ridge Point Stables will be teaching basic horse care, handling and riding. The program will be designed for returning “Stables Kids” but one timers are accepted. The program is fun and educational. We at Ridge Point are excited about inspiring the next generation of horsewomen and horsemen as well as future horse lovers!
This is our second year running Stables Kids and it has very quickly become popular! If you just want your child to participate monthly in a horse activity or you’re using Stable kids as a supplement to you child’s riding education, this is the perfect set up! Kids spend the whole day at the barn and although they will have a structured 30-45min riding lesson, the focus of Stable Kids is horse-care and horsemanship. If you own a horse or pony you are encouraged to bring them at no extra charge. We at Ridge Point feel it is our duty to educate future horse people about the proper and safe handling practices, students will learn discipline, responsibility, respect, neatness, and correct horsemanship! Moose’s Birthday Party

RPSMooseParty-019On June 20th, we had a birthday bash for Madison’s pony, Moose.  All of his friends were there, both 4 legged and 2 legged, to help him celebrate his 11th birthday.  Officially his birthday isn’t until the 4th of July, but this was a perfect time to get everyone together.  The party started with a “photo booth” where the party guest posed with the guest of honor in funny disguises.  After that, the 2 legged guest had an exciting horseless horse show that even included a water jump.  The hungry guest gathered for cake and ice cream after and then enjoyed a fun game of pin the tail on the donkey.  Next was an activity that both the humans and the equines were able to participate in – bobbing for apples!  The “photo booth” came back out and the pony guests had a chance to pose with their riders.  The festivities ended with everyone getting a chance to take a whack at the pinata.  It was a super fun way to end a great week of camp.  Happy Birthday Moose!  Thanks for letting us celebrate with you!  Enjoy the pictures below!

Summer Camp Session Two: Ponies and a Party

Madison and Moose on his July 4th, 2012 birthday.

The second session of our Summer Riding Program is coming to a close tomorrow, after a fun filled week of riding lessons, trail riding and fun activities, but that doesn’t mean all the fun is over yet!  Parents (and friends of campers), stay around tomorrow morning after drop off, for a demonstration ride by our campers to see what they have been working on this week.  You are sure to be impressed by their hard work.

In the afternoon, around 1:00pm, we are having a birthday party for Madison’s pony Moose, and everyone is invited to PARTY!  It’s a few weeks early (he was born on July 4th), but this was the best week for all of our pony friends to be in attendance.  Join us to celebrate Moose’s birthday, as we feast on cake, ice cream and other yummy snacks.  There’s nothing better than a pony party!
